Vendee Globe Race 2012 starting today and for the next 3 months.

- My favorite race in the whole wide world. The most challenging event for a solo person to accomplish in a lifetime; the Vendee Globe Ocean Race.

- Macif, the last Vendee Globe winner. I reconstituted the lines to offer views of what the 2012 winner looks like. You can follow her track under her new name SMA

- For the 2016-2017 race, here is the Hugo Boss with Alex Thompson.

- And we have a winner.

- This is my model from 2010. The evolution is net from previous Vendee Globe racers. Straighter lines, hard chines with a fuller bow and curved daggerboards. I introduced a curved boom to further control the mainsail, especially on a jibe.

- A visioner, Mr. Palmquist of Florida got a patent in 1987 for what is now, in 2016 the great lip forward for the Imocas boat in the Vendee Globe. The new breed has adopted Dali's mustache under various forms and shapes. Essentially a foil, to extrude more righting moment to fly over water. Not foiling per se, but nevertheless foiling assisted. When I read the article, I thought it was interesting but it is five years later that I understood the full potential of his work. Palmquist used a catamaran hull to prove his theory; that is the single hull of a catamaran. He placed his wings laterally to be able to skim over the water.
- Back in 1992, I thought furthermore about the article, being aboard a delivery going South via the Turks and Caicos to Antigua. With only 3 of us on this 72' ketch, and alone on deck for most of the time, I had a lot of time to think. That when I started to ruminate the option of designing a boat using the patent as a base to explore the Palmquist possibilities.

- Recent renderings of the boat originally designed in 92 with a pencil and on mylar.

- Interlude. Alex Thomson with Hugo Boss on the 16 January 2017 beat the 24 hr singlehanded record on a monohull by covering more than 536.81 nautical miles (994km). Extraordinary. At less than 3 days from completing this Vendee Globe, the time left to achieve such a record was slim. The last one by F. Gabart with Macif: 534.48miles.
