- The first time I met Ted Turner was in Denmark, 60 years ago. He had just won a Transatlantic Race with his Cal 40 Vamp.
- Ted is 27 years old at the time, and I will always remember seeing this tall American strolling down the docks, nonchalant and speaking in a very loud and clear voice, audible over the whole fleet of One Tonners preparing for the 1966 World Championship. To the concern of all the skippers, in wonder at what was going on. Being mainly an European bunch, they just could not believe someone could be so brash and bad-mannered.
