Merle Hallett R.I.P

 - A man, a sailor, and an entrepreneur.

- Merle allowed me to design one of his boats, the 42' Scaramouche, which he built in his own Boatyard.

- She has been a successful racer on the East and then the West Coast, where she collected many trophies in San-Francisco.

 

- Unfortunately, Scaramouche is not faring well these days. She is on the West Coast now, at Mission Bay near San-Diego. Somewhat converted into a Cruiser, plans for long-distance passages never materialise, and the boat has been sitting in a slip for a couple of years. When I learnt about her demise, I got interested in purchasing her for a distress price. But after inspection by a Rigger, a friend of mine, he suggested that I replace the entire rigging for the serious offshore sailing that I intended to do. The genoa/jib and the mainsail without a cover were not inspected, leaving suspicions about their condition.

- Vendee 2024, marching along. If you read my previous meanderings about I.M.O.C.A (scroll down), you know, I am a big fan of the Class. In an effort to follow through, and from my own point of view, I start the countdown towards the next race again. 

- So, with your indulgence for my own derivatives, having not submitted some of them in question to the Class Rules main body, I submit this study. 

- As usual, for competitive sailboat Designs, I start with different 3D Models, analyzing the shapes in space. With controlling points being the main object of attention. You have to stroll down to see models from 2019 to 2023, leading to the 2024 event on top of this dissertation.

. In some instances, I followed the evolution of reality as I became aware of it through publications, social media, comments, and research.

-This 32 M. Aluminum ketch is going under a major transformation.

Designed by the French Designer Dominique Presles (R.I.P ) the boat is in the USA to be adapted to a Cruiser with Bucket Competition in mind.
